There is nothing worse than skunk smell. Not only does it make you stink, but it is also very uncomfortable for the nose. But tackling skunk smell begins with one thing: the source. This source pertains to the person, object or animal that the skunk has sprayed. I pointed out object or animal because sometimes it may not even be you. Your pets can also be a victim. The worst thing about skunk smell is that it spreads. This is why a proper skunk smell removal process is very important. It is crucial lest you want to spread the smell all over your house.
But to make skunk smell removal work, you have to be very careful in contaminating your surroundings. If it is you that has been sprayed, be sure to avoid contact with anyone or anything in your house. The smell of the skunk can spread with simple contact so it is best to be careful. Meanwhile, if it is your pet then take him or her out of the house immediately. If you decided to carry him or her, remember that the smell can also transfer to your clothes. Do not forget to wash your clothes and take a bath to immediately neutralize the transferred smell.
Once you are done with that, you can now start tackling the source of the odor. You can do damage control by cleaning the source of the odor as soon as possible. If it so happens that the source has contaminated other objects in the house then make sure that you also clean those as well. Cleaning can be as easy as taking a bath or applying some soap and baking soda to the contaminated animals or objects. You do not need to worry because this solution is safe even for your pets. Now fabrics may need another type of treatment. A good mixture of vinegar, laundry detergent and baking soda can usually remove the skunk smell in fabrics. If you can, leave all contaminated objects to dry under the sun. The sun rays will dissolve the bacteria while the air will remove the bad odor.
If the smell has taken over your house, it is best to replace your air filters. Air filters have the tendency to trap air and this includes certain type of odors. If it so happens that your air filters is re-circulating the skunk smell all over your house, just replace it and your problem will be solved.
After you have done everything that I have said above, there will be times that the smell is still there. If it is, don’t worry. This means that you need to just wash everything again. Remember though that it may take a while to completely remove the odor. Sometimes, you have to wait for everything to dry or air out before you smell the results.
The skunk smell removal process is very easy. If done carefully, you can quickly remove the odor before it takes over your home. But even if it does, all is not in vain. You can always clean everything again until the smell goes away.
